because it was a dare, okay?

That's my first tattoo, a Cheshire Cat on my hip from 1996. I got it the day of the Cure concert, and it totally bled through my black silk dress, which I didn't discover until I was guzzling post-show coffee at the Waffle House in the wee hours of the morning.

And you know what?

I still love it.

I knew you in 1996. Who dared you? I don't think it was me, though I don't remember 1996 especially well.

No, Anon, you were mostly bleary-eyed and writing Led Zeppelin quotes on government property that year.

My editors at Cool Mom Picks dared me to show the tattoo. I don't *get* tattoos on dares; I just carefully crop and post photos of them.

I'm confused because I have a Cheshire cat tattoo from 1996 and I used to paint murals for competitive nineties moms and I'm sort of in love with you.

helenjane, we may in fact be long-lost sisters, although your website design and party planning skills are far superior.

What's your Cheshire Cat look like? I was very drawn on whether to go with the original John Tenniel or one of my other illustrated editions.
